Women Is going out home

19 Apr 2019 Ref-No#: 1541

Assalam Alyaikum! What is the hukm for women to go outside? Can she to go outside to walk with child to breath fresh air, to playground, etc. We live in flat. That‘s why we haven‘t opportunity to walk in our yard where we can be only ourselves. Staying always in flat have negative effects on health, I have a big deficit of vitamin D which usually is produced by being under sun lights. I am wearing by the Shariah laws. Is it permitted to me go out by these reasons?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

The primary objective of Islam is to protect the chastity and honour of women. For this, Allaah Ta’ala says:

وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْأُولَىٰ ۖ

“And (O women) remain within your homes and do not make an exhibition (of yourselves) like the displays (of the women) of former times of ignorance.”              (Surah Ahzaab, Ayah 33)

It is very easy for females to be exploited if they constantly leave their homes unnecessarily. In 1984, an article in the “Medical Journal” stated, “One of the major problems created by the lack of respect men now have for women by their presence on the streets, going to and returning from work, universities, college, e.t.c. and by their propensity to dress provocatively has been the rising incidence of rape”.

However, this does not mean that women should remain as prisoners in their homes. Islam does permit women to emerge from their homes at the time of necessity. The ruling is simple; they should merely ensure that they are covered when they come infront of strange men.

A female can go with her husband or brother to a park or garden at times when there are no other men around. She should be able to easily cover her face if any strange man happens to come about.

Ask your Mahram to take you to a quite area where you can lift your veil and inhale fresh air and boost your vitamin D.
