Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Allah Ta’ala is our creator, and He has reserved the choice to choose the gender of the baby. In verse 49 of Surah ash-Shurah, Allah says.

“To Allah belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He bestows a female (child) to who He wills and gives a male to who He wills. Or (for some) He bestows both males and females, and He renders barren whom He wills. Verily, He is the All-Knower and is the most powerful.”

It is natural for a human to have his own desire. However, we are convinced that what Allah chooses for us, is definitely in our best interest. For verily, Allah is the the Knower of all things.

Furthermore, we submit fully to Taqdeer (pre-destination). We firmly believe that a child’s gender and future has already been ordained.

As such, In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) contradicts the principles of Shari’ah, and the very essence of our faith.

Should a couple desire their child to be of a particular gender, they should implore Allah to bless them with that gender, if it is good for them. Thereafter, they should trust and be pleased with the decision of the All-mighty.
