Donation to Non-Muslims

28 May 2019 Ref-No#: 1790

Is it permissible to donate to a needy Non-Muslim? AND Is it permissible to accept donation from a Non-Muslim?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Islam is a religion of compassion, kindness and mercy. If there is a non Muslim in severe need, it is recommended to assist him.  Whether it is through financial or physical assistance, it is a noble act to help every creature, irrespective of his faith and creed. Perhaps the donations to them will be means for them to accept Islam.

As for taking a donation from a disbeliever, that too will be permissible, as long as the donation is not given in the name of their religion and gods, and there is no ulterior motive.
