Food/Drink remaining in mouth

17 Jan 2019 Ref-No#: 1300

Do drinks/toothpaste that get stuck in the lines of one’s tongue count as food and do I have to get rid of them? I’m afraid they might be an issue because i dont want to swallow potential food during salah and when im fasting. I drink chai often and I look in the mirror and still see chai remnants in the lines of my tongue. I use a tongue scraper a lot and rinse my mouth a lot and yet it is still there.

Does this affect my wudu/salah/fast?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

If you merely have a taste in your mouth, and there is no actual food particles, it will not affect the validity of your prayers.

You should not have unnecessary doubt regarding this.

After having anything, use a toothpick, use  Miswaak and rinse your mouth thouroughly. Thereafter, concentrate on your prayers, and not on potential food.
