Clear discharge

27 Feb 2018 Ref-No#: 415

slms I would like to know if clear discharge breaks your whudhu as I habe come across the following message

Q & A from the Darul Ifta
Q. Many women experience a clear or white discharge during their normal pure period. Is this discharge impure and does it invalidate wudhu?
A. Vaginal discharge can be categorized into three types:
1. Discharge from the outer private part. This discharge is pure and can be likened to perspiration.
2. Discharge from the inner private part. This is normally experienced during a woman’s pure period. This is also pure and does NOT invalidate wudhu.
3. Discharge from the womb. This is normally experienced during menses. This is impure and invalidates wudhu.
From the above we can conclude that the clear or white discharge experienced during a pure period is pure and does not invalidate wudhu.
NOTE: This ruling is applicable as long as the discharge is clear or white. If it is mixed with blood or discharge due to arousal (mazi), the wudhu will be invalidated.
And Allah Ta’ala knows best.

From Mufti Ebrahim Desai’s web side. very common in women. http://askimam.org/public/question_detail/22681 open link read an bc

Does vaginal discharge break Wudhu?

Question

assalaamualaikum!

we women always have white discharge. it means that it breaks wudhu and so we have to do wudu for all the time for every prayer.

does this still mean that on the time when we have white discharge we cannot read the holy quran?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Every woman suffers from white discharge (vaginal discharge). It is light, limpid, viscid and mucous. The discharge is mucus that is produced from the womb neck (cervix) in a natural way. It is fluid.

In other words, one may perform Salah and carry out other actions without renewing Wudhu after discharge. Nevertheless, if one decides to clean herself and renew Wudhu after discharge, she may do so. [3]

Note that this ruling is is applicable as long as the discharge is white and not mixed with blood etc.[4] and is not due to arousal. Otherwise, the Wudhu will be invalidated. [5]

Q: What is the Islamic ruling on vaginal discharge that females commonly experience? Many ladies are confused about this issue, especially when they get different answers from various Ulema.
A: There are basically three types of vaginal fluid that Shariah has ruled on. Two are mentioned above, viz. Moisture inside the vagina, secreted from membranes that line the vagina, and fluid that flows from the cervix into the vagina. The third type of moisture is that which is found on the outer labia or the lips of the vagina. Sometimes this fluid also flows onto the area outside the vagina.
Medically fluids that exit from the vagina can come from the cervix or neck of the uterus, or from glands inside the vagina itself. Sometimes the source of these fluids is attributed to the fallopian tubes. Clearly this is difficult for a woman to determine. Therefore, the following rules, based largely on the view of Imam Abu Hanifa (rahmatullahi alayhi) will perhaps ease matters for our sisters:

1) Moisture that is secreted from the lining of the vagina is a matter of dispute among the former Jurists. Imam Abu Hanifa, and majority of the Shaafi’ Scholars hold that such moisture is paak or clean, and does not nullify wudhu if it flows out. We, therefore, maintain that the normal discharge a women experiences will not nullify wudhu.
2) A ‘normal’ discharge is usually clear, cloudy or whitish, moderate in quantity, thin or slightly viscous, and with a mild odour. This does NOT break wudhu.
3) A discharge that is yellowish or greenish, and very thick, with a strong odour or bad stench should be regarded as impure and will nullify wudhu, for such a discharge is definitely from an area beyond the v
3) A discharge that is yellowish or greenish, and very thick, with a strong odour or bad stench should be regarded as impure and will nullify wudhu. Apparently this is the latest fatwa Mufti are in agreement Inclu mufti motara

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

The following is a detailed response given by Mufti Ebrahim Desai Sahib (Daamat barakaatuhu):

This is the final verdict, and most Mufties give fatwaa on this. You should follow this ruling.
